Mythos Management - Eat. Pray. Fear.
Current version: v025
Step into the positively tentacle-ridden shoes of a Great Elder in this darkly humorous Lovecraftian management game. As an exalted being from beyond the stars, you must shepherd your cult through the epochs, balancing your insatiable hunger with the imperative to fulfill your dark, otherworldly aspirations.
In "Mythos Management: Eat. Pray. Fear.", your must shield your cult from dangers both mundane and cosmic: The spectre of discovery is ever-present, but your own ravenous appetite for cultists threatens to derail your plans if not kept in check. Fail to consume enough of them on the other hand, and you risk your unplanned awakening that could simply annihilate noticeable parts of the world (and with it, your cult).
With each passing epoch, the danger of exposure increases, requiring you to master the delicate dance of secrecy and sustenance.
Direct your loyal followers (and the nearly deranged ones) through both mundane and surreal tasks to assure your place among the greatest of Elders. Assign recruitment of fresh devotees, preaching your gospel, or construction of the towering monuments that mark your legacy. But the cosmic demands don't end there: Command your cultists to weave dreams, fashion idols, and celebrate otherworldly rituals that thin the veil between their world and yours.
Prepare for dark humour, cosmic horror, and mind-bending management dilemmas. Will you keep the cult thriving and your hunger at bay, or will you succumb to the insatiable cravings and bring about the end of days? The fate of the world rests in your many capable hands... or rather, tentacles.
Controls
Click, hold, and move cultists to their assigned task area. These are milestones to work on them, the pulpit to receive gifts, the altar to make sacrifices, the outside to choose between tasks, or the choir to sing your praises.
Release when cultists are placed.
They will move back to whence they came if improperly placed.
Gameplay
You play as a Great Elder being. Your goal is to make it to the end of five epochs, by managing your cultists to perform tasks for you, and finally construct the final device to ensure your cosmic rule. Each epoch's end comes with the temporary destruction of your cultists (they are so puny) and each new epoch, new cultists arrive.
Every epoch is played in rounds that you end when ready. Per round you can:
• assign outside tasks to cultists: recruiting more, headhunting special recruits, finding offerings, preaching, or obfuscating your cult's tracks.
• assign inside tasks: sing to sate your hunger, receive a dark gift from you, or work on a milestone.
• consume cultists. Your hunger draws you to devour them; you must counteract yourself in time by keeping, well, your own paws, away from indicated cultists.
• cultists may also idly loll about.
Dangers that loom:
• devouring too many cultists or the wrong ones will throw you back. Devouring all of them ends the epoch.
• not devouring enough cultists will wake you up, causing a cataclysm that ends the epoch and your cult.
• being discovered by other Elders and their cults. They will attack you. Certain milestones can help in your fight.
• driving your cultists mad: your very presence increases cultists' insanity levels. Once it outweighs their willpower, they will do something involuntary and messy.
Minigames
• Hunger: If you do not want to devour a cultist, you have to restrain yourself. Careful! Sometimes you don't even know you are about to chomp one down.
• Awakening: you need cultists, offerings, or song to stay in a slumber and not attract the attention of other, more powerful Elders until you're ready.
• Discovery: Nobody wants to share power, so when discovered, you need to fight the other Elders. Parry their attacks as best you can. Monuments act like shields, preventing your essence from being consumed, but are destroyed in the process. Don't worry, you can make more.
Milestones
• each milestone offers different bonuses. Some have requirements.
Epochs
• Five ages must be survived. Each epoch has some set and some random features. By finishing the Oracle milestone, you can get a sneak peek which feature the next epoch has.
• You may have to repeat an epoch if the previous one ended badly for you.
