The Dark Heart of the Cosmos

A short guide on three A5 pages, adding a force of primordial darkness that does not love life to any campaign. It is more of a craft kit than a full set of definitive rules, so while it works with any system, it is unlikely to work right out of the box for you, some decisions can only be made for a specific campaign.

The Dark Heart of the Cosmos deals with subjects of loss of identity, false beliefs, and self-harm. Please be cautious. When using these rules, talk with the group ahead of the adventure, and make sure players have means to signal their unease, by using X cards or other fitting means.

The Dark Heart of the Cosmos

They say at the beginning, there was light. 
They are wrong, of course. Before the light, there was darkness. Science's limited knowledge revealed, at least, the equal amounts of everything in that first singularity. Gaze upon your sun, and be aware that a shadow, just as great, balances it. And the Dark is much less friendly than even the first humans imagined it, when they told their stories of how night ate day.

In the beginning, light did not explode, dance freely, or blossom.
It fled.
The darkness, however, remained where it had always been:
At the center of everything.
The dark heart of the cosmos.

Imagine the Dark Heart of the Cosmos as an overarching region to your game world. It is there somewhere, intangible perhaps but influencing all around it.
